Can heat pumps be fitted to older Victorian houses?

“Some people say that heat pumps don’t work in older UK houses”

Technically heat pumps can be fitted in any house so maybe the question should be “can old houses run efficiently with a heat pump?”. Our installation partner installed a larger Daikin heat pump in an old manor house over in Thorpe Audlin near Wakefield which keeps this grand old manor house warm and cosy all year round. The key to installing a heat pump in an older house is to correctly apply heat loss calculations to correctly size the heat pump. The increase electrical usage of powering an air source heat pump can usually be off-set with the installation of solar panels to subsidise electrical energy usage. In fact we have fitted air source heat pumps into an old bungalow on top of a windswept Yorkshire moor in Bronte Country. The energy from the solar panels and storage batteries powers up the air source heat pump 24/7 and during the summer months our customer has earnt money back from their energy supplier Octopus Energy making his home have zero use of fossil fuels and his energy bills in credit during the summer with only small energy bills in UK winter months.
